I see both sides of this issue.
1) poor defendants suffer more harm financially due to bail fees or missed work.
2) without financial incentive, many defendants just won't show up.
3) the standard for bail release will either be too low or too high. So either we'll be letting too many defendants get away, or we'll be holding too many who would show up.

Also, I don't know what's up with the cover image.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Aug. 28, 2018, signed Senate Bill 10, which eliminates cash bail in California starting in 2020 and replaces it with a system of risk assessment and nonmonetary conditions of release.
