While I'm all for having girls as part of cub scouting, there is one issue that troubles me. The program isn't open to girls until the fall of 2018. Even those who participate in the early adopter program can't start until March 2018.
So these aren't actually the first girls since they can't be officially registered yet. If they could, we'd have done it already.
Five Bay State girls made history yesterday when they became the first female Cub Scouts to participate in a Pinewood Derby competition in Chelmsford. The girls, who range from kindergartners to fourth graders, cheered alongside other Cub Scout Pack 45 members as the little wooden cars they hand-crafted at home zipped down an inclined track and across the finish line.
